SeaScape Lawn Care has announced that they have partnered with Apprenticeship RI and the Rhode Island Nursery & Landscape Association (RINLA) to pilot a landscape technician apprenticeship program. As the first Rhode Island landscape company to be accepted, SeaScape is currently seeking 4 -5 candidates to begin the program in September 2017.
The apprenticeship model provides for one year of paid, on-the-job and classroom training combined with classroom instruction. The goal of this pilot program is to offer young people the opportunity to build a career in the landscape industry.
SeaScape is proud to lend their green expertise to this program, “We have always prided ourselves on the level of training provided to our employees,” said President of SeaScape, Jim Wilkinson, PhD. “Lawn care technicians especially require a broad background in lawn and weeds, insects and diseases, grass species, application techniques, and safety procedures. Our current training programs have formed the basis for an effective apprenticeship program.”
Apprenticeship programs allow experienced workers to pass along their knowledge to the next generation. It provides for structured, on-the-job and classroom training, resulting in enhanced workforce skills and successful career progression. SeaScape is hopeful that their participation will demonstrate to potential employees their level of commitment to training, and encourage them to gain the knowledge necessary to become industry professionals.
